Cummins has opened its eagerly awaited 15,355m2 Cummins Power Hub in the Waterfall Logistics Precinct in Waterfall City, Midrand.

The R350 million sales and service facility strategically consolidates and solidifies various business premises in the country for Cummins and houses the Cummins Southern Africa Regional Headquarters, the Master Rebuild Centre (MRC), Africa Learning Centre and the company’s Gauteng Operations.

The official opening of the Cummins Power Hub heralded the completion of what was a three-year project.

“We are extremely excited to officially launch our new state-of-the-art facilities,” said Ms Racheal Njoroge, managing director of Cummins Southern Africa.

Ms Njoroge added that the Cummins Power Hub has an architectural layout that has been optimally and uniquely designed.

“It adopts the Cummins Smart Office Concept (CSO) to create a space that enhances internal collaboration, encourages engagement and thereby accelerates a solution-orientated approach,” she explained.

The company’s relocation from the Kelvin and Longmeadow offices to the Waterfall Logistics Precinct is also of strategic significance.

Visiting dignitaries to the opening of the premises included Cummins chairman and CEO, Mr Tom Linebarger; the VP and president – distribution business, Mr Tony Satterthwaite; and chief human resources officer, Ms Jill Cook.

The consolidation of the various businesses at the Power Hub provides a suite of products and capabilities all available under one roof.

The central hub, providing power solutions for customers across the Southern Africa region, brings together a host of company expertise in mining, power systems, automotive and technical training.

The new facility is equipped with a 3,500hp AVL Dyno Test Cell; a precision-driven engine spray booth and a water purification plant which recycles 80% of water used in the Master Rebuild Centre.

According to Cummins, the Power Hub allows for progressive build processes that reduce overall build times while improving quality output.

Part of the Cummins Distribution Business Unit, the Hub also focuses on sales and aftermarket servicing.

The MRC, meanwhile, continues to be a focal point of Cummins support to the mining industry, providing rebuilt engines as required.
